Overview	Übersicht
The Survey offers a detailed insight and statistics concerning the present utilization of Linux Compute Clusters (LCC) in the different HPC-markets in the German industry (Automotive, LifeScience, Semiconductor, Aerospace, ...). The HW-providers of Linux clusters as well as the IT-Service-providers for LCC and their activities are presented. The survey of Linux clusters dicusses topics like Installation/Getting up and running of LCC, experiences with HW- and IT-Service-providers, level of content with performance and price-/performance of the utilized LCC, stability and administration effort for LCC, growth-rate of the clusters and future utilization of LCC and PC-hardware in detail reflecting the comments of the users of LCC. Participants of the study were companies including Audi, Autoliv, Bertrandt, DaimlerChrysler, EDAG, Honda R&D, Leica Microsystems and other companies of very different size. The survey of LCC presents input concerning strategy, hardware and services concerning Linux Compute Clusters and gives a overview on the actual utilization of LCC in the German HPC-environment. In addition the study offers the possibility to learn from the experiences of other users, to prevent problems in an early stage and to compare own ideas with that of other people.	Die Studie bietet einen detaillierten Einblick und Statistiken zur derzeitigen Nutzung von Linux Compute Clustern (LCC) in den unterschiedlichen Märkten im HPC-Umfeld in der deutschen Industrie (Automobil, LifeScience, Halbleiter, Luft- und Raumfahrt, ...). Zusätzlich werden die Anbieter von Hardware für Linux Cluster sowie IT-Dienstleister mit Services rund um LCC aufgeschlüsselt. Zum anderen werden im Rahmen der Umfrage zu Linux Clustern Themen wie Installation/Inbetriebnahme von LCC, Erfahrungen mit Hardware- und IT-Service-Anbietern, Zufriedenheit mit Performance und Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis der eingesetzten LCC, Stabilität und Administrationsaufwand für die LCC, Wachstumsrate der Cluster und zukünftige Nutzung von LCC und PC-Hardware detailliert unter Berücksichtigung der Kommentare der Nutzer von LCC behandelt (siehe Inhaltsverzeichnis). An der Umfrage zu LCC haben Firmen wie Audi, Autoliv, Bertrandt, DaimlerChrysler, EDAG, Honda R&D, Leica Microsystems und weitere Unternehmen unterschiedlichster Größe teilgenommen. Die LCC Studie bietet Hilfestellungen hinsichtlich Strategie, Hardware und Services rund um Linux Compute Cluster und verschafft einen allgemeinen Überblick über die aktuelle Nutzung von LCC in der deutschen HPC-Landschaft. Weiterhin bietet die Studie die Möglichkeit, von den Erfahrungen anderer Nutzer zu lernen, Probleme schon im Vorfeld zu vermeiden und die eigenen Ideen mit denen anderer zu vergleichen.
